Queretaro

Another amazing city! Queretaro is so beautiful, clean and friendly. Daniel and I left Guadalajara at 7AM and made it into Queretaro by 1:30 PM. We had a few stops along the way so it took us a little over 5 hours. We decided to take the libre roads from Guadalajara and they were surprisingly empty and as always very scenic.

When we got into town, we checked into our hotel then called family friends. We walked around the historic center and took a million photos then headed over for dinner at Dona Maria's house. Many hours later, we were full of great food. We had a very nice time at her house. Thanks Julie and Martin.

Afterwards we returned to the historic center for a few drinks at a happening Irish bar. We ended the night hours later eating tacos del pastor complete with pineapple on a busy corner near our hotel.

Queretaro has a pretty nice art scene. There are a lot of art galleries and it seemed that most of the plazas displayed local art work.

I think what I loved most about Queretaro is that there are alot of plazas with beautiul fountains. It was nice to sit back, eat fruit and people watch. And once we tired of people watching, there were so many historic buildings, cool stores with interesting items to look at - there were a lot of museums, book stores, art galleries, artisan shops..etc. It was endless.

The history of Queretero is well preserved with many tour companies offering to take you around by foot or on trolly to the different sites that were important to the Spanish rebellion. We didn't have a chance to go on any tours since we just stayed for the night. Hopefully there is a next time.

This morning we walked around a lot more, sat in a cafe, went to the main church and people watched, then headed out to Puebla. I would have loved to stayed in Queretero for a few days. Next we are off to Puebla, then Oaxaca.
