The first tooth is on its way...

It's so exciting! He has a tooth finally coming in. The edge of the tooth broke through the gum. Now I'm just waiting for the rest of it to surface. I don't know how long it takes for the whole thing to come through but I imagine it should happen soon. He's been a little bit fussy but overall he's ok. I have been giving him homeopathic medicine (camilia) and it seems to really help calm him.

Here are a few photos of him asleep in the car. He looks like a giant in the seat. Sleep is a whole other blog post and I'm not sure it's of interest to anyone other than Daniel and I. Actually it's not even interesting for us - it just a life consuming issue these days. The jist is that I can only get him to sleep if he's in my arms, in the car or in his stroller. So lately I've been driving around and around and around the deserted Alameda Navy base. Yesterday I drove him around for 2 hours and he slept for most of it and today i drove around for over an hour. I'm trying to increase his nap time during the day by taking longer walks or driving. It's frustrating...but then again, he forces me out of the house so that isn't a bad thing.

Walking the line....

So here he is having some tummy time on the kitchen floor. He can only move backwards these days. He isn't crawling. Actually he isn't even close to crawling. He hangs out on his belly for a few minutes before breaking out in protest. I see a Sierra Club/Green peace or PETA activist in the future cards.
This week has been busy. We have a wedding to go to on Saturday and then I fly to LA on Sunday to be with my mom. She hasn't been feeling too great but I guess she sounds better than she did a few weeks ago. I'm excited to see her and I can't wait for her to see Rocco. He has grown so much since she last saw him. I doubt that she will be able to hold him. But she will be able to give him lots of kisses.
Ok, it's 8:15 and I'm off to bed.

Crib

Rocco finally has a crib (thank you Hans and Hannelore). Daniel assembled it last week and since then Rocco has only slept in it once. Yes, only once. He doesn't like to be alone in it. I think he is so used to being with me all the time that when he's in the crib he doesn't know what to do except to scream to get out. I have been putting him in his crib a few times every day to play. I want him to have positive associations with the crib (you know, it's not a prison but a place to rest). Every morning he plays with his toys in the crib while I get ready. He doesn't mind his crib as long as I am in the room. If I leave, he screams, then I pick him up, he stops screaming, he smiles, I smile. Ah. Exhausting. Speaking of which, I hear him now. Gotta go.

Rocco and David

Here they are - just hanging out on a Sunday afternoon. They are soooo cute together. I love that they are only 6 days apart. It's great to see another baby go through all the same changes. Amy and I have fun talking about all the new things happening to our baby boys.
They are both toothless; they aren't drooling much; and they are both grabbing everything! They are the same length but David is about 4 pounds heavier than Rocco. David is eating solids daily and is healthy and robust. He is super strong and I think he is going to be walking any day now. Amy and Set have some childproofing to do soon because David is waaaaaaaaaaay active. He's doing planks, holding himself up and engaged in advanced yoga poses. He is the strongest baby I've met - then again it's not surprising given his parents. Rocco on the other hand is growing into his weight and size. He does a little bit of "tummy time" daily then gets tired and wants to be picked up and held. He's no where near David's strength but he can hold his own against another 16 pound 14 ounce baby. :>> Rocco is really doing great. He is super healthy, happy and doing well. Daniel says that we need to get him on a push up/plank regimen but I doubt that will happen (we are his parents after all - the ultimate loungers).
So Rocco had his doctor's appointment today and he said Rocco is "perfect" (you know I'd loved hearing that). His weight is in the 50%, his head circumference in the 80% and his length in the 97%. Overall it was a good visit. Rocco cried when the doctor checked inside his mouth. Other than that he was a trooper. I can't believe he's on his way to 7 months............i really can't.

Missing Anne

Daniel, Rocco and I miss Anne. Come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rocco and I will be flying to LA to visit my mom soon. She has been sick but is slowly recovering. I know how much she wants to see him and hasn't been well enough to fly here...so we are going to her.

Bath time

boat cruise

We got out for the day sans Rocco on the Startime II. Our friend Danielle's friend owns it and took a group of us out. We all brought wine and snacks and enjoyed our 3 hour tour.

japanese gardens

Last Friday we went to our local Indian restaurant where Rocco held his first beer. This was such a proud moment for Daniel (I'm glad that we have our priorities together). After that, we zipped into the city and headed to Golden Gate Park. I knew Anne would love the gardens - so we went and after we walked the park for a bit and people watched.
Photo 1: Rocco on this first swing ride. He loved it and didn't want out. I definitely see a swing set in our future.

Jack London Square

These photos were taken las

Wednesday at Jack London Square (all except for Daniel and I). It was the first clear day we'd had in 4 days so Anne and I went out for a walk. I was still recovering from a cold. Wait. I'm still recovering from the same cold but now it's much better. Luckily Rocco didn't get sick. I'm hoping he stays that way.

Photo 5: Cooking break. Daniel made the only thing he knows how to make - goulash last Sunday. We had our neighbors over for dinner and the kids didn't like the goulash so they ate noodles, apples and carrots and the rest of us grubbed on the meat.

More chinatown

Here are a few photos of our day in Chinatown. We spent a good deal of time at the Far East Bizarre
sorting through the innumerable plastic trinkets that one doesn't need but thinks would be so neat to have (and if you are like me you soon realize that you already have more chochkies than you need). After wandering through the store, I realized that I didn't need the Far East Bizarre to complete me. Sarita would be so proud. I walked out bowlless. I didn't give in to any of the little things around me despite the fact that I was high from formaldehyde - my Kryptonite. Daniel as usual wasn't easily swayed by the plastic and well Anne like me had to rethink what it was she really wanted. In the end she was good and only came out with the cow for Rocco.
