We started this blog when we left for Guadalajara in late 2006. It feels like a lifetime ago. Well, really it was. Since then we survived a kitchen remodel, pregnancy, birth (and beyond) and now we have a son who runs our lives and we couldn't be happier (well, most of the time that is). This blog is all about him. Since all our family is far away we hope you check in now and then to stay updated on the life and times of El Chiquitito.

Santa Maria del Oro
Santa Maria del Oro is a crater lake located about 2 hours from Guadalajara. On our way back from Chacala we stopped here for a dip in the laguna and ate some seafood before heading home. It's very peaceful and clean with many families having picnics on the water's edge. Folks are not encouraged to swim too far out since the water runs pretty far deep. By that I mean they haven't been able to find the crater's floor. At least that's what all the locals say.....
To be safe we did stay on the water's edge, just like everyone else. None of us are Olympic style swimmer's so we took it easy and soaked our bones in the mineral rich water. There is a pretty steep drop off when you enter the lake. You only have to be about 4 feet from the edge to lose your standing pose. We didn't go out farther then that. All very pretty and all very nice!
